Word is out that 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin is publishing his first book, A Promise to Ourselves: Fatherhood, Divorce and Family Law, and it is due to be out on Sept 23 2008.

Do not expect a salacious account of his highly publicized split from ex-wife Kim Basinger in 2002, nor the peak of their divorce battle when Baldwin called his daughter, Ireland, 12, a “thoughtless little pig” in a voice mail and lost visitation rights for a short while.

Although Baldwin is known for dishing out scathing remarks about his ex and divorce, like “Divorce is harrowing. I’m here to tell you that it was the most painful thing I went through in my life — worse than any childhood humiliation or the death of my father, who died of cancer when he was 55 years old” and “wrenching and carcinogenic”, his book is apparently it is an irreverent and witty take on the American family law system and alienation issues with children post-divorce.

The book covers his custody battle over his daughter and said, “Many, many men who get pulled into the family law system in this country… they really get beat up pretty bad.”

It looks like Alec Baldwin is trying to help fill the gap where advice for men going through a divorce and post-divorce fatherhood issues is not as abundant or readily available as it is for women.
